About Lone Larch

Owners Sandra de Blois and Thomas More are dedicated to breeding and promoting Akhal Teke horses in Canada.   All our Akhal Tekes are registered in the General Studbook. Our farm is situated near the village of Lumby, in the Northern part of the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia.  Lumby is known as the gateway to the Monashee mountains.

This quaint village is nestled among valleys and rich farmland.  The view from Lumby is beautiful with the picturesque Coldstream, Trinity, and Creighton valleys converging. The  Monashee Mountains and the abundant streams and lakes provide an enchanting scenery for the avid horseback rider.

Our horses live on 21 acres of beautiful pasture and have access to an eight stall brand new stable.   From our farm, horse and rider have access to endless trails.  It is the perfect environment to train our Akhal Tekes for endurance racing.

Sandra de Blois worked as an academic before breeding horses. She obtained her Master's degree in horse cognition from Laval University in 1991. Afterwards, a fellowship from the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada allowed her to pursue doctoral studies in the United States . She obtained her Ph.D. in 1996 in Animal Behavior from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and worked at several research centers in the USA before returning to Canada and focusing on Akhal Teke horses.

Thomas More obtained his Bachelor of Commerce in International Business from the University of Victoria.  His years of experience in retail banking and financial planning allows him to fill the role of farm's financial management.

Yves de Blois joined Lone Larch in 2005.  He lends an indispensable hand to the daily chores and he is in charged of the manure management and composting.
